A new Washington Post poll shows Americans remain divided over the U.S. military campaign against Iran, with slightly more people favoring an end to the strikes even as support for continuing them has increased.
The poll of 1,005 Americans found 42% support the campaign while 40% oppose it and 17% are unsure. That marks slightly less opposition than shortly after the strikes began, when 52% opposed the action.
When asked whether the United States should continue strikes, 34% said they should continue while 42% said they should stop. About 24% were unsure.
A majority of respondents, 65%, said the Trump administration has not clearly explained the goals of the war.
Casualties also weighed heavily on public opinion. Sixty-three percent said the number of U.S. military deaths — 11 service members killed and about 140 wounded — is unacceptable.
Overall, 53% said they do not believe the military action will improve long-term U.S. security.
