Update at 4:21 p.m.
The Clovis Unified School District announced an update: “As of 4:06 p.m. law enforcement has given Clovis East High and Reyburn Intermediate the all clear to conduct a phased release of students for the day. We apologize about the longer than anticipated delay to our end of school today.
“Please expect students to be delayed in their normal arrival from school by approx. 45 minutes. We encourage you to check in with your student tonight and remember that our emotional wellness team is always available to families if needed.
“Thank you again for your patience throughout today’s experience and for supporting our Timberwolf family.”
Update at 3:40 p.m.
The Clovis Unified School District released this statement: “Law enforcement is completing their work to clear Clovis East High School and Reyburn Intermediate and it is expected that students will be released approximately 20 minutes late from the regularly scheduled end of school. Afterschool activities will continue as regularly scheduled.”
Update at 2:48 p.m.
Clovis Unified released this statement to parents: “Though this call had hallmarks of a hoax, we take any possible safety concern seriously and are exhausting every measure to confirm no threat exists to students.”
Reagan Elementary has been cleared to release on time for bus riders and parent pick up, Clovis Unified said. The district said that parents will not be allowed on campus and are asked to use the regular pick up/drop off lanes in the parking lot.
The district gave these directions to Reagan Elementary parents:
-
“Students who typically walk home will be held in the MPR until picked up by a parent (with ID) or until our neighboring schools lift their Shelter in Place.
-
All after-school activities except Expanded Learning Club (ELC) have been cancelled. ELC students will be escorted to their program from classrooms at the end of the school day.
-
ROP students currently on our campus will stay at Reagan until their school’s Shelter in Place is over. Thank you for your patience and support during today’s safety procedure.”
Original Story
Clovis East High School and Reyburn Intermediate are on a shelter-in-place order as officials partner with the Clovis Police Department to investigate a call that came into the school around 1:25 p.m. on Monday.
The students at both schools were at lunch when the call came in. Staff first moved students to classrooms, but they are now being moved under adult supervision to the school gyms.
Additionally, some students are attending the Latino Success Conference. Clovis Unified will have these students remain at the conference until the shelter in place is lifted.
According to the Clovis Unified School District, neighboring Reagan Elementary is also under a shelter-in-place order.
The measure at Reagan Elementary was implemented to reduce outdoor activity while police are on site at the adjacent campus.
No further details about the call or how long the shelter in place order will remain in effect were provided.
