A driver is lucky to be alive after crashing into a power pole while reportedly at more than twice the legal alcohol limit in Fresno, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

The collision sent power lines across the car and the roadway.

The driver remained inside the vehicle until first responders and PG&E crews safely turned off the electricity. He sustained minor injuries.

The CHP emphasized that anyone involved in a similar crash should stay inside their vehicle until help arrives, warning that live wires can be deadly.

The driver is expected to face court for a DUI arrest once he has recovered.

Authorities reiterated the dangers of drinking and driving, urging residents to call a friend, use a rideshare, or remain in place instead of risking their lives behind the wheel.
