A 15-year-old boy was arrested after an attempted armed robbery at a Terra Bella gas station Tuesday night, authorities said.

Deputies with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office were called just before 10:15 p.m. to the Family Foods and Gas Station in the 9500 block of Road 236, the agency said in a statement.

Investigators said the boy entered the store, grabbed an item and handed a note to the cashier demanding money. He then gestured toward a satchel with a gun inside, threw coins at a clerk and ran from the store.

Deputies located the suspect nearby and detained him without incident. A gun was recovered, officials said.

The teen was arrested and booked on charges related to attempted robbery.
