Authorities arrested a Lerdo inmate Monday after he escaped from Kern County Sheriff’s custody over the weekend, officials said.
Francisco Garcia, 23, fled on foot east from Kern Medical around 11 p.m. Saturday while awaiting sentencing on convictions including attempted homicide, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, conspiracy, and gang-related charges.
Detectives located Garcia at a Lamont residence on Panama Road around 7 p.m. Monday and took him into custody without incident.
Two additional people, Jasmine Morales, 32, and Elektra Espinoza, 20, were also arrested on charges of conspiracy, aiding and abetting an escape, and being an accessory to a crime.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said the recapture involved multiple agencies, including the Bakersfield Police Department, California Highway Patrol, ATF, U.S. Marshals, and the state’s Fugitive Apprehension Team. Investigators are reviewing protocols to prevent future escapes.
