The Los Angeles Rams need their offensive line to keep Matthew Stafford upright and healthy all season.

But through two weeks, they haven’t done the best job. Stafford has already been sacked four times this season and his 6.1% sack rate ranks 17th-worst in the league so far. Stafford’s 19.7% pressure rate is also higher than the league average and his eight quarterback hits rank seventh-highest in the league.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the Rams’ offensive line ranks among the worst in the NFL after Week 2.

According to Pro Football Network, the Rams fell to 30th on their OL Impact grading system. While center Coleman Shelton finished with a league-average score, the rest of the team’s starters rank outside the top-35

The Rams unit has struggled mightily in pass protection so far. In fact, it’s probably easier to list the items in which they rank dead last as opposed to talking about them.

Their only redeeming quality is that LA running backs are averaging 0.98 yards before contact on designed runs, a figure that ranks the unit 10th in the NFL.

Injuries are partly to blame here. Justin Dedich is a backup filling in for guard Steve Avila, while Kevin Dotson is battling through an ankle injury. Tackle Alaric Jackson dealt with blood clots all offseason, while fellow tackle Rob Havenstein had offseason shoulder surgery and has his own ankle ailment.

The Rams also faced two of the better defensive fronts in the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans in the first two games of the season.

Things will get worse before they get better for L.A., though, as they take on the vaunted Philadelphia Eagles defensive line in Week 3, led by Jalen Carter.
