The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Matthew Canizalez, 20, of Farmersville.

Original Story

A 20-year-old Farmersville man was killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Fresno County, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 1:38 p.m. near Zediker Avenue, south of Huntsman Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the man was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion southbound on Zediker when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car.

The vehicle left the road, struck a raised concrete irrigation well on the driver’s side, and overturned.

CalFire crews used the Jaws of Life to free the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP said the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were factors.
