The Fresno police cadet arrested in 2024 on charges of possessing automatic weapons is expected to enter a new plea on Monday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office expects 28-year-old Joshua Eric Brown to enter a guilty plea for his illegal weapons charges after being arrested on Sept. 3, 2024, according to a spokesperson with the Department of Justice. He had originally entered a not guilty plea.

A federal judge granted him temporary release until Sept. 30 with location monitoring equipment. He had been in custody since his arrest last year.

Social Media Photos Showed Brown With the Firearms

In September 2024, the FBI, in cooperation with the Fresno Police Department, seized an MP5 submachine gun, a fully automatic AR-15 style rifle, and an unregistered suppressor from Brown’s Fresno apartment.

The Fresno Police Department hired Brown as a cadet in September 2023.

An FBI special agent began investigating Brown in June 2024 for possibly having illegal firearms. Search warrants for Brown social media accounts uncovered photos indicating he had build the MP5.
