A Tulare police officer was injured in a traffic collision Friday while responding to a medical emergency involving an unresponsive infant, authorities said.

Around 12:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to a confidential location in Tulare following reports of a baby who was not breathing, the Tulare Police Department said in a statement.

While en route with emergency lights and sirens activated, a patrol vehicle was involved in a collision with another car at Bardsley Avenue and K Street.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Tulare Adventist Hospital for treatment. The other driver was not hurt.

The infant was also transported to Tulare Adventist Hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead.

Police said the incident remains under active investigation.
