The Sierra from Yosemite to Kings Canyon is expected to be dressed in fresh snow this weekend as the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning on Friday.

Six to 12 inches of snowfall are expected above 8,000 feet, and totals up to 3 feet are possible at the highest elevations, said NWS Hanford in its morning discussion.

NWS Hanford also forecasts a 50% to 70% chance of up to a half-inch of rain in the northern San Joaquin Valley with a 60% to 90% chance for 1 inch of precipitation in the Sierra and foothills.

Stronger Storm Starts Monday for Fresno

A stronger storm is forecast for Monday with the storm total having a 50% to 80% chance for at least half an inch in Fresno and surrounding communities and a similar chance of an inch or more in the foothills.

The chance of precipitation for Fresno on Tuesday is 90% with as much as three-quarters of an inch possible..
