If you haven’t already lined up your designated driver for New Year’s Eve partying, you’ll want to find someone who can navigate in dense fog.
That’s the forecast tonight for the Fresno and Clovis areas, which are seeing more fog because this side of the Valley was more rain-soaked by recent storms, National Weather Service meteorologist David Spector said Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service had previously predicted subfreezing temperatures for overnight Tuesday into New Year’s Day for rural parts of the Valley and foothills. “We’re looking tomorrow at lows in the mid to upper 30s in the Valley. It doesn’t look as cold as what was earlier expected because this air mass that came in didn’t turn out to be as dry as earlier anticipated,” Spector said.
Other than a few isolated spots in Merced County, Monday’s overnight temperatures in the Valley stayed above freezing, he said.
Colder in South Valley
Overnight lows Tuesday will be colder in Tulare, Kings, and Kern counties “because there will be fewer upslope clouds,” he said.
Dense fog will continue into the late morning in Fresno and Clovis on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. But it’s not forecast to be widespread across the Valley, and it should burn off by late morning, Spector said.
And other than a slight chance of rain late Friday and early Saturday in the Fresno area, the forecast is for dry weather for the next week, he said.
The forecast highs and lows for Fresno are: Tuesday, a high of 54, overnight low 40; New Year’s Day, high of 56, low of 41; Thursday, high of 58, low of 45; Friday, high 62, low 44; Saturday, high 56, low 42; Sunday, high 56, low 41; Monday, high 57, low 41; and Jan. 7, high of 56.
