The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on New Year’s Eve, aiming to keep roads safe during holiday celebrations.
Officers will be out in force from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday, targeting drivers suspected of impairment.

On Saturday, the Fresno police reported that their checkpoint at Palm and Pinedale avenues screened 278 vehicles, leading to 10 DUI arrests and 21 citations for unlicensed or suspended/revoked licenses.

Authorities remind the public that impaired driving extends beyond alcohol consumption. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as marijuana use — whether medicinal or recreational — can interfere with driving and lead to legal consequences.
First-time DUI offenders could face up to $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to having their licenses suspended, the department warned.
