Six people — including a 17-year-old mother and her 6-month-old baby — were shot to death early Monday morning at a home in the Tulare County community of Goshen, sheriff’s officials said.
Watch: Sheriff Mike Boudreaux Speaks to Media
Law enforcement personnel responded at about 3:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 6800 Block of Harvest Road only to be confronted by a mass homicide.
Deputies found two victims dead in the street and a third person fatally shot in the doorway of the residence, said Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.
Three more victims were found inside the home, including a man who was alive but died at a hospital, Boudreaux said.
Two of the victims, the teen mother and her baby, were shot in the head, the sheriff said.
Detectives Hunt for at Least Two Suspects
The sheriff said that detectives are searching for at least two suspects and believe the massacre is gang-related. The sheriff’s office conducted a narcotics-related search warrant at the residence last week, Boudreaux said.
“We also believe this was not a random act of violence. We believe this was a targeted family,” he said.
Parts of Kame Drive and Harvest Road in Goshen are expected to be closed throughout the morning.
Goshen, which is located just off Highway 99 near Visalia, has about 3,000 residents.
