Plans for a Great Wolf Lodge waterpark resort in the Visalia area have been scuttled, with the company focusing on projects in other areas, the Visalia Times Delta is reporting.
Great Wolf Resorts terminated its agreement to build a 700-room, seven-story hotel, waterpark and entertainment complex near Highway 99 and Caldwell Avenue, the future site of the Sequoia Gateway Commerce Center.
A spokesman for the resort told the Times Delta that the company’s “current priorities are to continue investing in our existing resorts, successfully open the resorts currently under construction and pursue growth in areas most under-served by Great Wolf Lodge.”
Great Wolf Resorts currently operates 19 locations throughout the United States, including Manteca, which opened in 2021.
Despite the setback, plans for an IKEA furniture store in Visalia appear to remain in place for a location near the Gateway Center development, the paper said. Currently, the nearest IKEA stores available to Central Valley shoppers are located in the Bay Area and Los Angeles.
According to the Times Delta, other planned amenities at the Gateway Center include a Valley Children’s pediatric clinic, gas stations, fast-food restaurants, retail stores and offices.
