A year after moving its Mexican frozen food manufacturing headquarters to Texas, Ruiz Foods says it will shutter a Tulare facility later this year.

In a news release Friday, the company that began in Dinuba said it would close the Tulare branch at the end of its fiscal year, sometime between Aug. 30 and Sept. 13.

“After 20 years of services, we have determined that the facility is too small and requires substantial capital investment to meet our manufacturing needs or remain a viable part of the Ruiz Foods network,” the release stated.

The Sun Gazette reported that there are 215 employees at the Tulare plant.

The company employs 4,000 team members across five facilities in California, Texas, and South Carolina.

Some employees could be transferred to the Dinuba plant.

Ruiz Foods Best Known for El Monterey Frozen Burritos

In 2022, the food processing company made Frisco, Texas its co-headquarters. A year later, Frisco became the sole headquarters. In an interview with GV Wire, CEO Dan Antonelli said the move provided a bigger talent pool to hire from.

Antonelli declined to comment on the closure of the Tulare plant.

The company’s most famous product, the El Monterey line of frozen burritos, is the best-selling frozen Mexican food in the U.S., according to the company.
