GV Wire and the Fresno District Attorney’s office is organizing a signing event on Sunday with the goal of qualifying a revised version of California’s Proposition 47 sentencing reform law for the November ballot.

During the event, volunteers will gather signatures in support of the Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act. This act aims to amend  2014’s Prop. 47 by, among other changes, adjusting the felony theft threshold to $950 and reclassifying certain felonies as misdemeanors.

Advocates say that revising the law through the ballot box is necessary due to increases in retail theft, drug addiction, and homelessness.

The measure needs 546,651 signatures from registered voters statewide by April 23.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the northwest corner of Copper and Maple avenues next to the new Mad Duck Brewing restaurant.

KMJ and the Business Journal have hosted similar signing events in Fresno.
