A man accused of stealing a 55-inch television from a Visalia Walmart and pulling a knife on loss prevention employees was arrested Thursday night after running across Highway 198, police said.

The incident began about 7:22 p.m. at the Walmart on East Noble Avenue, according to the Visalia Police Department.

Police said a man pushed the television out of the store without paying. When loss prevention employees tried to stop him, he pulled out a knife.

Officers later found the man near Highway 198, where police said he ran across the freeway while attempting to flee.

The suspect was identified as Israel Sanchez, 32.

Police said Sanchez also had brass knuckles and six outstanding warrants.

He was arrested and booked on suspicion of robbery, resisting arrest, and possession of brass knuckles, along with the outstanding warrants.

The television was recovered and returned to Walmart, police said.
