Fresno’s busy Shaw Avenue is getting its bone-rattling potholes filled, and city officials advise motorists to watch out for work crews.

Road repairs are moving forward on Shaw from Valentine to West avenues and from Fruit to near Palm Avenue. Right now, crews are completing concrete repairs and upgrading ADA curb ramps to prep for paving.

Earlier, the city repaved Shaw from Blythe to Valentine avenues.

These efforts are part of Mayor Jerry Dyer’s “Pave More Now” initiative, which is utilizing a $100 million bond to accelerate street repairs throughout the city.

The Promise to Repave Shaw

“We made a promise that we were going to fix Shaw, and that’s exactly what we’re doing,”  Dyer said in a news release. “Pave More Now gave us the ability to move forward on major sections of Shaw instead of waiting years for other funding to become available.

“We’re attacking this corridor from every angle, leveraging federal and local dollars, coordinating with our partners, and even using our own city crews because the goal is simple — get Shaw paved.”

The city anticipates finishing West to Fruit avenues by next spring. After that, it will be Shaw between Highway 99 and Cornelia Avenue by summer 2027. By the end of 2027, most of Shaw Avenue should be repaved.

Most repaving construction work will be completed during nighttime hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
