Madera police arrested two drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence during day-shift patrols Friday, authorities said.

One arrest followed a traffic stop near the 1200 block of East Cleveland Avenue, where an officer contacted a male driver in his 40s, according to the Madera Police Department.

Police said the driver underwent sobriety tests and was determined to be driving under the influence. A breath sample showed his blood alcohol concentration was nearly three times the legal limit.

The arrest was one of two DUI arrests made by the department’s day-shift patrol team Friday. Both drivers were booked into the Madera County Jail.

Police urged people who plan to drink to arrange for a designated driver, use a rideshare service, or find another safe way home.
