Fresno police have arrested multiple juveniles and a grandmother in connection with a series of violent crimes in July, including an assault at a middle school and the robbery of a pedestrian.

Police said the first incident occurred July 9 at a middle school near First and Nees avenues, where Elida Morales, also known as Elide Morales, allegedly drove her three minor grandchildren, ages 15, 14 and 17, to confront another minor.

According to police, one of the juveniles recorded the confrontation while the other two allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old boy. The victim’s grandparents intervened to stop the attack, but Morales and the 17-year-old allegedly used pepper spray on them.

Morales and the 17-year-old were arrested for their alleged use of pepper spray during the assault.

A second incident occurred July 13 near Blackstone and West Minarets avenues, where a 36-year-old man was walking when he was approached by a group of juveniles, police said.

The victim ignored the group and continued walking to a nearby liquor store. Police said the suspects followed him, questioned why he had ignored them and accused him of being disrespectful before physically assaulting him.

During the attack, one of the suspects allegedly stole money from the victim’s back pocket. The victim fled into a nearby store and escaped.

Detectives identified five suspects involved in the robbery: three 15-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy. Police said four of the five suspects have been taken into custody on robbery charges following the service of a search warrant.

Police described the arrests as part of an investigation into a violent crime spree that included robbery, assault, a shooting and stolen vehicles. No additional information about the shooting or stolen vehicle cases was released.
