A fire inside Happy Wash & Dry laundromat in central Fresno was contained Tuesday morning after the building’s sprinkler system helped keep flames under control, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded shortly after 8:30 a.m. to the 2300 block of North West Avenue following reports of a fire inside the business, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find a dryer on fire. The laundromat’s fire sprinkler system had already activated and was helping limit the spread of the flames. Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire and contained the damage to a single dryer unit.

Firefighters spent about an hour clearing smoke from the building and removing water left behind by the sprinkler system.

No injuries were reported. Damage was limited, and the laundromat remained open for business, the fire department said.

Officials said the incident serves as a reminder for residents to clean dryer lint traps before every use. Lint buildup is one of the leading causes of dryer fires.
