A 53-year-old man was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence and weapons-related charges after officers found him unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in a Visalia roadway, police said.

At about 4:09 a.m., Visalia police officers were handling an unrelated call for service near Tulare and Watson streets when they noticed a vehicle stopped in the roadway near their patrol cars, according to the Visalia Police Department.

After completing the call, officers saw that the vehicle remained in the same location and contacted the driver. Officers found the driver unconscious behind the wheel and observed a methamphetamine pipe on the passenger seat, police said.

The driver was identified as Jose Jimenez, 53. Officers determined through their investigation and field sobriety tests that Jimenez was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, according to police.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded rifle, police said.

Jimenez was taken into custody and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of DUI and weapons-related charges.
