An inmate who escaped from custody Wednesday while at Kern Medical Center for a scheduled appointment was apprehended about 90 minutes later, authorities said.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said Vincent Xavier Deleon, 45, fled from detention deputy custody at about 11 a.m.
Deputies immediately began searching the surrounding area after the escape was reported.
Deleon was taken into custody without incident at about 12:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of Quincy Street, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details about how Deleon escaped or why he was being held. The sheriff’s office said further information would be provided as it becomes available.
