Update: The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said the incident is being investigated as a deputy-involved shooting.

They said that deputies were confronted by a man in the back of a home at the 400 block of West Matheny Avenue when the shooting occurred.

Tulare County sheriff’s deputies responding to a welfare check Wednesday morning were involved in a shooting in Tulare, authorities said.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived around 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of West Matheny Avenue when the shooting occurred. Officials did not immediately release information about injuries, possible suspects, or what led to the gunfire.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area as the investigation continued.

The sheriff’s office said more information would be released as it becomes available.
