A man was arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident involving a victim and two young children after officers responded to a call in Fresno, according to police.

On Tuesday at about 7:53 p.m., officers were dispatched for a reported domestic violence disturbance, the Fresno Police Department said.

Police said that during a verbal argument, Matthew Lopez, 27, grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed the victim into a bedroom wall for about five seconds. The victim was able to get a phone and run into the living room, where Lopez allegedly chased the victim.

Two of the victim’s children, ages 3 and 2, were in the living room at the time and witnessed the altercation, according to police.

Police said the victim then followed Lopez back into the bedroom, where Lopez pushed the victim onto a bed and again began to choke the victim. The victim fought back, and both the victim and Lopez sustained injuries consistent with the victim’s account, police said.

Lopez was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and child endangerment, according to police.
