A 22-year-old man turned himself in Monday night in connection with a morning collision that killed a mother and her son at McKinley Avenue and Freeway 41, Fresno police said.
Timothy Seth Chavez surrendered to a deputy at the Fresno County Jail around 9 p.m. after the crash, which occurred at approximately 1:57 a.m. Monday. Chavez struck a car, sending it into a nearby canal.
The victims were identified as Martha Hernandez, 41, and her 9-year-old son, Adrian Hernandez, both of Fresno.
Police officers detained Chavez and transported him to the Fresno Police Department, where detectives interviewed him.
He was medically cleared at Community Regional Medical Center before being booked on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony hit and run, driving on a suspended license, and driving without insurance, authorities said.
His bail is $81,301.
