Porterville police arrested a 23-year-old man on Sunday in connection with a series of vehicle vandalism incidents that damaged dozens of cars across the city, authorities said.

Patrol officers responded to numerous reports of vandalized vehicles on Saturday morning, prompting detectives to take over the investigation due to the number of victims, according to the Porterville Police Department.

Investigators determined that the tires of 32 vehicles were slashed, causing an estimated $6,400 in damage.

Detectives identified Ernesto Anguiano Jr., a Porterville resident, as the suspect, police said.

Anguiano was apprehended at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday while walking on Plano Avenue near Chase Street. Officers observed him discarding a sheathed knife as they contacted him, police said.

Anguiano was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and booked into the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office South County Detention Facility. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
