A 27-year-old Clovis man and member of the California National Guard was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Tollhouse Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 9:05 a.m. east of Van Fleet Road. A CHP helicopter conducting a training flight in the area arrived within minutes and found the man dead inside a Lexus ISC sedan that had overturned in a dry creek bed.
Investigators said the driver was headed east on Tollhouse Road when the car veered off the south edge while negotiating a gentle left curve, struck a tree, and flipped onto its roof.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, CHP said.
The man had been scheduled to report for duty at the CalFire station in Tollhouse at 8 a.m. When he did not arrive, fellow soldiers began searching for him and discovered the crash site.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP Fresno Area Office.
