The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a missing hiker after the man’s body was found near Multnomah Falls on Sept. 10.
The investigation was launched around 8:40 a.m. after the Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC) received a report of a missing 49-year-old hiker, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
A short time later, BOEC received a separate report of an unresponsive person found at the base of Wiesendanger Falls along the Larch Mountain Trail.
The sheriff’s office’s Green Hornets rescue team responded to the scene and confirmed the person was deceased, officials said.
The hiker’s identity has been confirmed, but has not yet been released. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office is working with investigators to confirm the cause of death.
