A Madera County sheriff’s deputy and her K9 partner helped uncover suspected narcotics during an arrest Friday morning.

Deputy Eliza Hernandez responded to a suspicious vehicle parked on the 28000 block of Cholla Avenue, where she encountered John Bartollome, 38, authorities said.

Bartollome appeared to be under the influence and became combative when contacted.

With support from additional deputies and the California Highway Patrol, Hernandez detained Bartollome after a brief struggle.

Her K9, Canelo, was then deployed and alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle, investigators said.

A subsequent search uncovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Bartollome was booked into Madera County Jail on multiple charges, including resisting arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
