A man has confessed to killing 75-year-old Robert “Bob” Boyajian, who was last seen Saturday in Bass Lake, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators found Boyajian’s car, briefcase, and Apple Watch — an item authorities say he never left behind — at his residence. However, his cell phone, wallet, and bedding were missing.

Authorities said Boyajian’s security cameras were offline and the recording device that was stored in his closet was missing.

Suspect Audrik Matevosian

The 21-year-old suspect, identified as Audrik Matevosian, of Clovis, had previously performed IT work for Boyajian, a longtime Realtor well known in Fresno and Madera counties.

He met Boyajian through his brother, who also did work for Boyajian.

Matevosian was identified through security footage that showed him withdrawing $1,000 from an ATM using Boyajian’s accounts on Sunday evening.

Matevosian then made two additional attempts to withdrawal more money, authorities said.

Investigators say he referred to Boyajian in the past tense during a conversation following a Tuesday night search warrant, raising concerns about the victim’s whereabouts.

Matevosian initially told authorities that Boyajian had died by suicide. He later claimed Boyajian had asked him for assistance in ending his life.

Boyajian’s Remains Buried in Mojave Desert, Investigators Say

Matevosian then admitted to murdering Boyajian, wrapping his body in bedding and transporting it to a cave in the Mojave Desert, where he buried him, the sheriff’s office said.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area where Matevosian buried the body, but San Bernardino County will take over handling the recovery, as the body is located within its jurisdiction.

Investigators found two firearms in the Matevosian’s bedroom. Boyajian’s cell phone was recovered near Woodward Park in Fresno, and his wallet was located inside Matevosian’s gym locker.

The shovel used in the burial was also recovered, investigators said.

The sheriff’s office said there is only one suspect in the case.

“This was a calculated and callous act against a respected member of our community,” said Sheriff Tyson Pogue. “Our detectives worked tirelessly and methodically to bring justice to Mr. Boyajian and his loved ones.”

Matevosian is charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances and grand theft. He is being held without bail at the Madera County jail.
