The Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to more than 1,270 calls over the Fourth of July weekend, including nearly 400 emergency 911 calls, officials said.

Between July 4 and July 6, deputies handled 504 calls for service.

On Independence Day alone, they responded to 29 fire-related incidents — the highest number for a single day in the past five years, the agency said Tuesday.

The department’s Boating Unit also maintained a presence at Bass Lake, logging 68 patrol hours and making 284 vessel stops. No serious boating injuries or deaths were reported, officials said.

The sheriff’s office thanked its dispatchers, deputies, and CalFire Madera-Mariposa-Merced for their coordinated efforts in helping ensure a safe holiday weekend.
