A Clovis man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy that led to a fatal overdose, federal prosecutors said Monday.
Lakota Tehya Wakley, 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
Between Nov. 18 and Dec. 9, 2024, Wakley worked with others to distribute fentanyl in the Fresno area, prosecutors said. Investigators began looking into the case after a 24-year-old Fresno man died from a fentanyl overdose.
According to court documents, Wakley referred users to a co-defendant who sold the fentanyl pills and later split profits with Wakley. Judge Sherriff found that Wakley directly caused the victim’s death.
