The suspect, Ronny Harris, 51, was arrested on one count of assault with a deadly weapon (machete).

He was booked into Fresno County Jail.

Original Story

A machete attack in a Fresno apartment complex led to a seven-hour SWAT standoff that ended with a suspect in custody early Monday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing just after 10 p.m. Sunday at the Crossroad Village Apartments on North Blackstone Avenue.

They found a man in his early 20s with a laceration to his chin. The victim told officers he was riding his scooter when an unknown woman directed him to a man she claimed had been involved in a disturbance.

The man, described as being in his early 50s, allegedly confronted the victim in the apartment parking lot while armed with two machetes. After a verbal exchange, the suspect reportedly swung one of the machetes, striking the victim.

The victim was treated for a non-life-threatening injury at Community Regional Medical Center and later released.

A SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team responded after the suspect retreated into his apartment. After hours of failed negotiations, officers deployed a chemical agent.

The suspect surrendered shortly before 7 a.m. Monday.

He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. His identity will be released after booking.

The woman involved has not been located.
