A Visalia man was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening along Highway 180 in the Sequoia National Forest, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

Eric Abbot, 42, was identified as the rider who died at the scene, the Fresno County Sheriff – Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

The crash was reported around 5:10 p.m. about 2.5 miles east of Hume Road.

Investigators said Abbot was riding a black Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Highway 180 when he failed to navigate a left-hand curve and struck the mountainside.

Abbot was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
