Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing Into Mountainside in Sequoia National Forest

A Visalia man died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle in the Sequoia National Forest, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 5:10 p.m. on State Route 180, about 2.5 miles east of Hume Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the 42-year-old man was riding a black Suzuki motorcycle westbound when he failed to navigate a curve in the road. The motorcycle continued straight off the highway and struck the mountainside.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
