A Mexican national was sentenced to nearly five years in prison Monday for trafficking hundreds of pounds of narcotics through Fresno County, federal prosecutors said.

Isaac Abraham Sandoval Lopez, 36, of Sinaloa, Mexico, received a four-year, nine-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff for possessing methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin with intent to distribute, Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced.

On June 26, 2024, officers with the California Highway Patrol stopped Sandoval Lopez on Interstate 5 for a traffic violation, according to court documents.

A search of his vehicle uncovered several bags, suitcases, and backpacks filled with narcotics, authorities said.

In total, officers seized approximately 230 pounds of methamphetamine, 5 pounds of fentanyl, and 2 pounds of heroin.

The case was investigated by the CHP and the FBI. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cody S. Chapple.
