Zaon Collins’ return to the lineup and Fresno State’s biggest home crowd of the season weren’t enough to end the Bulldogs’ losing streak on Saturday.

Collins, who had been sidelined during an investigation into the program’s betting scandal, scores 14 points and grabbed six rebounds against Boise State.

However, the Broncos (21-8, 13-5) used a game-ending 10-2 run to beat the Bulldogs, 66-61, before 7,507 fans.

The Bulldogs played just seven players. Jalen Weaver and Mykell Robinson previously were dropped amid an NCAA investigation into Fresno State players placing prop and fantasy wagers.

It was the 11th straight Mountain West loss for Fresno State (5-24, 1-17) under first-year coach Vance Walberg.

“The NCAA reinstated (Collins) and we are just very happy to have him back,” Walberg said.

Bulldogs Lead With Five Minutes to Go

Collins’ layup gave Fresno State a 57-56 lead with about five minutes left before the Broncos dominated the rest of the way.

Andrew Meadow scored 22 points and Tyson Degenhart added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Broncos.

Jasir Tremble led the Bulldogs with 19 points, and Brian Amuneke had 17 points.

Fresno State has lost five straight homes games by eight or fewer points in the worst season in program history.

Next Up

The Bulldogs have two opportunities to get back into the win column this season. They face Wyoming (12-18, 5-14) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Save Mart Center, and play at San Jose State (13-17, 6-12) on Saturday afternoon.
