Students from McLane and Duncan Polytechnical high schools walked out of class Friday afternoon to protest deportations.

The high schoolers marched between the two campuses on Cedar Avenue in east-central Fresno in a demonstration that disrupted the school day.

A spokesperson for Fresno Unified School District said, “We respect our students’ right to protest. We try to encourage students to voice their opinions on campus for safety reasons, but when they choose to leave campus to protest we must respect that. Our administrators, our safety team, and our partners at Fresno PD have stayed with our students to try and ensure their safety.”

The protest comes amid ongoing debates over immigration policies and their impact on local communities.

Protests Happen After Nationwide Wave

Recently, a nationwide protest under the 50501 Movement planed nationwide protests on Wednesday against the Trump administration.

These protests took place at state Capitol buildings and smaller cities’ city halls.
