Former Bulldog Tommy Hopfe Is Assigned to the Fresno Grizzlies

Tommy Hopfe, who starred at Fresno State before becoming the Colorado Rockies ninth-round draft round pick in July, has been assigned to the Fresno Grizzlies.

Hopfe will make his Grizzlies debut on Thursday night, batting seventh and playing left field at Valley Strong Ballpark in Visalia in a game starting at 6:30.

10th Former Bulldog to Play for Grizzlies

Hopfe becomes the 10th Bulldog to don a Fresno Grizzlies uniform. The others are LHP Dean Hartgraves, ’98, RHP Steve Soderstrom, ’98-99, C Giuseppe Chiaramonte, ’00-’01, RHP Mark Gardner, rehab, ’01, OF Tom Goodwin ’02, LHP Adam Pettyjohn ’04, C Trent Woodward, ’15 and ’17, RHP Justin Miller, ’19, and OF EJ Andrews Jr., ’22-24).

Hopfe spent four seasons with the Bulldogs, twice earning All-Mountain West First Team honors. He was a two-way player much of his collegiate career, batting .329 with 23 homers, 117 RBI, 117 runs, 49 walks, and 10 stolen bases. In 68 collegiate mound appearances, he tossed 92 2/3 innings, striking out 78 and recording 20 career saves with a 4.86 ERA.

Hopfe is expected to be on the Grizzlies 2025 roster.
