Jeremy Gober, 43, of Hanford, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for health care fraud and aggravated identity theft, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced on Thursday.

Gober, co-owner and operator of Got Sleep Inc., managed sleep clinics in Fresno and Orange Counties. These clinics are typically tasked with conducting diagnostic sleep studies to detect disorders such as sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

Gober Submitted Thousands of Fraudulent Claims

Court documents reveal that from August 2016 to July 2020, Gober orchestrated a scheme to submit thousands of fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medi-Cal for sleep studies that were never performed.

The claims falsely indicated that the patients were referred for the studies by physicians with whom Gober had previously collaborated. This deception was necessary because Medicare and Medi-Cal only cover sleep studies if referred by a physician. As a result, more than $1.5 million in fraudulent claims were submitted, with $587,000 paid out by Medicare and Medi-Cal.

Gober’s Brother Did Similar Crimes

On March 11, 2024, Gober’s brother, Travis Gober, received a 19-month prison sentence for his role in a related health care fraud and identity theft scheme involving other sleep clinics in the Central Valley.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, the FBI, and the state Department of Health Care Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Barton prosecuted the case.
