In a recent CNN poll, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings continue to falter, particularly in relation to his handling of the conflict between Israel and Gaza.
The poll, conducted by SSRS, reveals that Biden’s approval rating for his handling of the Israel-Gaza conflict stands at a mere 28%, with a staggering 71% disapproval rate. This includes an 81% disapproval mark among those younger than 35 and majority disapproval among Democrats (53%).
The poll also indicates that Biden’s overall approval rating remains low, with 60% of respondents disapproving of his performance as president. This is consistent with previous CNN polls conducted over the past year. Even on issues where Biden has traditionally had stronger approval ratings, such as healthcare policy and student loan debt, his approval ratings are in negative territory, at 45% and 44% respectively.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have improved in retrospect. The poll shows that 55% of Americans now view Trump’s presidency as a success, a significant shift from a January 2021 poll where 55% considered his time in office a failure.
The poll also suggests that if the 2024 presidential election were held today, Trump would hold a steady lead over Biden, with 49% of registered voters supporting Trump compared to 43% for Biden.
