The American Values 2024 super PAC, which supports independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has announced that it has gathered enough signatures to get Kennedy’s name on the ballots in Georgia and Arizona.
Surpassing the Required Threshold
The group has collected 20,188 signatures in Georgia, surpassing the required 7,500, and 62,605 in Arizona, exceeding the 42,303 threshold.
Kennedy’s presence on the ballot could potentially influence the outcome in these battleground states in a race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Both states were crucial in Biden’s 2020 victory over Trump, with Biden winning Arizona by just over 10,000 votes and Georgia by nearly 12,000 votes.
Allegations of Violating Federal Election Law
The super PAC has committed to spending $15 million to help Kennedy get on ballots nationwide. However, the Democratic National Committee has accused Kennedy of violating federal election law with this effort, alleging that the super PAC cannot independently collect signatures and then transmit them to the campaign while accepting unlimited funds.
Kennedy’s campaign manager, Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, dismissed the allegations as a nonissue raised by a partisan political entity. She also stated that the PAC has not yet submitted the signatures to the campaign.
Running as an Independent
Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, launched his presidential campaign in April as a Democrat but later announced in October that he would run as an independent. The super PAC also reported that it has collected about 70% of the signatures needed for Kennedy to appear on the Michigan ballot and about 60% of the signatures required in South Carolina.
