Police Say Georgia Homeowner Exercises Second Amendment Rights in Fatal Home Invasion

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a homeowner in Sandy Springs, Georgia, shot and killed a home invasion suspect, police said, in an incident they described as the homeowner utilizing his Second Amendment rights for home defense.

The Sandy Springs Police Department reported that an unidentified male illegally entered a residence on Spalding Drive, threatening the homeowner. Another occupant of the house dialed 911 as the situation escalated shortly after 2 a.m.

While police were en route, the homeowner defended his family by shooting the suspect. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect deceased.

The police department’s statement did not clarify whether the homeowner’s actions were deemed justified or if charges could potentially be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
