Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., has called for a more aggressive stance against Iran, suggesting a “massive retaliation” to halt attacks on U.S. assets.

He criticized the Biden administration’s approach, claiming that since President Biden took office, Iran has attacked American positions in the Middle East over 150 times. Cotton, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Senate Intelligence Committee, suggested targeting Iranians operating in Iraq and Syria.

On the other hand, Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Mass., defended the Biden administration’s approach, stating that it has been “tough” on Iran.

He pointed out that the administration has implemented nearly 50 new sets of sanctions, leading to almost 50% inflation in the Iranian economy. Auchincloss also highlighted the importance of political isolation through the Abraham Accords, a declaration signed by Israel and several Arab nations three years ago, which he believes Iran fears more than military or economic action.
