Fresno police said Wednesday morning that officers have booked a 79-year-old Fresno landlord into jail on suspicion of murdering a tenant in a rent dispute.
Ira Gordon Lewis is accused of murdering Michael Brady, 56, by shooting him multiple times in the 4500 block of East Dakota Avenue near North Barton Avenue on Saturday, May 13.
Officers found Brady bleeding on the ground and he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police Lt. Bill Dooley said in a news release.
Witnesses said that Lewis was seen leaving the homicide scene and entering his residence, which is directly behind Brady’s residence.
Detectives then learned that Lewis and the victim had an ongoing dispute over Brady’s unpaid rent, Dooley said.
During a search of Lewis’s residence, investigators found a gun.
