Caltrans wants motorists to know that southbound Interstate 5 will close starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Vista Del Lago Road and Templin Highway.

Then, at 5.m the following day, two southbound lanes will reopen, Caltrans said in a news release.

In addition, southbound I-5 will close from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

The closures, which began Monday night, are necessary because crews are repairing the landslide damage in Castaic. Normally, southbound I-5 is four lanes there. But the landslide has undermined the roadway shoulder, thus limiting traffic to two lanes.

The westbound State Route 138 connector to southbound I-5 and the Quail Lake Road, Smokey Bear Road, and Vista Del Lago Road on-ramps to southbound I-5 will also be closed.

The Detours

Southbound I-5 traffic will detour east on State Route 138 and south on State Route 14 to southbound I-5 at Santa Clarita.

Caltrans advises motorists to allow extra travel time and expect delays in both directions of I-5 in northern Los Angeles County.

Motorists can check highway closures at QuickMap.dot.ca.gov or by calling 1 (800) 427-7623.

Caltrans also reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow Down and Move Over.”
