Buying the Porterfield Hotel in downtown Bakersfield was already a challenging undertaking for Fresno-based Bitwise Industries. But an arguably harder task — finding new homes for the dozen or so long-term tenants who call the hotel home — is about to begin now that the property has officially changed hands.

Bitwise has not yet disclosed plans for how it will redevelop the 96-year-old stucco property, sandwiched as it is between two other buildings also owned by the growing tech incubator and workforce development company.

One thing that seems certain, however, is that the residents will have to go.
