A mass shooting at a Bakersfield party sent six victims to the hospital early Saturday. Four suspects are at large, the Kern County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies responding to the to scene at an apartment complex just after midnight said the party was large. Deputies were alerted to the shooting by frantic 911 calls from witnesses, Kern County Sheriff’s Lt. Cesa Ollague told the Associated Press.
The victims included a juvenile female, four female adults and a male adult. Sheriff’s Dept. investigators found 94 shell cases and three live rounds at the scene.
Investigators Seeking Four Suspects Seen Driving Away
Partygoers reported seeing four men driving away in a white car, the lieutenant said, and investigators were trying to determine whether they attended the party or were participants of a drive-by shooting.
Victims Expected to Survive
All six of the victims suffered gunshot wounds but are expected to survive, officials said.
The party was taking place despite California’s stay-at-home orders limiting gatherings intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Ollague said he didn’t know exactly how many people were in attendance.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
