Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer, who has already spent $83 million on ad buys in the 2020 race, is scheduled to visit Fresno on Monday.
Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor, will be in town to open his campaign office at about 6:30 p.m. The office is at 464 E. Bullard Ave., Suites 107-108.
The event is free, but space is limited so the Steyer campaign asks that people register at this link.
Steyer will be the fourth 2020 Democratic presidential candidate to stop in Fresno. Julian Castro, Pete Buttigieg, and Bernie Sanders were here previously.

Steyer Far Behind in National Polls

Despite Steyer’s heavy television presence and his calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment early on, he is at 1.5% support in the RealClear Politics average of national polling.
He pitches himself as a political outsider “and the only candidate that can take on Trump on the economy.”
The 62-year-old Steyer is a billionaire banker, hedge-fund founder, and philanthropist. However, unlike many billionaires, he is an environmentalist whose politics skew progressive.
His presidential platform: term limits for Congress, decriminalizing illegal border crossings, and Supreme Court expansion. Steyer has said that his top priorities are reducing corporate influence in elections, Congress, and the White House; and addressing climate change with emergency action.
He also proposes designating $125 billion in federal funds to historically black colleges and universities.

Steyer Hopes for Success in Four Early Voting States

Politico reports that Steyer is focused on the four early voting states: Iowa, South Carolina, Nevada, and New Hampshire. In those states, he has spent nearly $37 million — more than twice the amount of rivals  Buttigieg, Sanders, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren combined.
Steyer will arrive in Iowa on Jan. 1 for a five-day “People Over Profits” bus tour.
